SlideShare Download Missing Slides or Content

The download finished, but something’s not there. Here’s what static formats can and can’t carry over.

Quick answer

Why is content missing from my download?

PDF, PPT and PPTX exports capture the static layout of each slide: text, images and static graphics. They don’t capture anything that depends on interaction, motion, or an external connection, since those aren’t part of a slide’s fixed layout. If a presentation used embedded video, live animation, or linked content, that piece won’t appear in the downloaded file.

Not preserved

What Static Exports Leave Out

01

Embedded video

A video embedded in a slide won’t play in a PDF or PPTX. You’ll usually see a blank space or a placeholder where it was.

02

Live animations

Build animations and transitions between slides are a playback feature, not part of the slide’s fixed content.

03

Linked or dynamic content

Content pulled in from an external source at view time won’t be captured in a static file.

What carries over

What Does Transfer Correctly

01

Text

All static text on a slide, including titles, bullet points and captions.

02

Images

Photos, charts and static graphics that were placed directly on a slide.

03

Layout

Slide order, positioning and formatting stay exactly as they appeared originally.

A different problem

If Entire Slides Are Missing, Not Just Content Within Them

Check the slide count

Compare the number of pages or slides in your download against the original on SlideShare.

Try a different format

See if the same presentation converts completely as PDF if PPTX had gaps, or the reverse.

Still incomplete

If whole slides are consistently missing across formats, see download not working.

Common questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Why doesn’t my embedded video play in the downloaded file?

Video requires playback, which a static PDF or PPTX file can’t provide. This applies to any downloader, not just this one.

Will PPTX preserve more than PDF?

PPTX keeps slides editable, but it still can’t preserve embedded video or live animation. Neither format captures those.

Some of my text formatting looks different. Why?

Custom fonts not available on the system generating the file may be substituted with a similar font, which can shift spacing slightly.

Is there a format that keeps everything?

No downloadable format fully replicates an interactive, in-browser presentation. Static formats capture layout, not behavior.

An entire slide is blank in my download. What’s wrong?

This usually means that slide relied entirely on dynamic content. See the troubleshooting guide if it happens across the whole presentation.

Try a Different Format

Some presentations convert more cleanly as PDF, PPT or PPTX. Compare them yourself.
